# Rootly vs. Resolve AI

URL: https://rootly.com/alternatives/rootly-vs-resolve-ai

> Resolve AI reads your telemetry. Rootly AI SRE reads it too, with your catalog, on-call, and incident history already in hand, and runs the incident after root cause.

Both read your telemetry. Only Rootly already knows who owns the service, who’s on call, and every incident before this one.

## Why teams choose Rootly AI SRE over Resolve AI.

An investigation is only as good as what it knows. Rootly knows your services, your people, and your history.

1. 01 **The context already lives in Rootly.** Owners, on-call, runbooks, and every past incident are where the investigation starts, not something to rebuild.
2. 02 **And the telemetry too.** AI SRE reads Datadog, Grafana, Sentry, your code, and more. Telemetry is where both start, not where they differ.
3. 03 **Context that compounds.** Memory from every incident and instructions in plain language, carried into the next investigation.
4. 04 **Root cause is one step of the incident.** Rootly pages, investigates, coordinates, communicates, learns, and prevents, with your agents in the loop.

01

## The context already lives in Rootly.

Resolve AI starts from telemetry and the knowledge you curate for it. It can sync team rosters from Rootly, but not the incidents in it. Rootly AI SRE reads the same platform that pages your team and runs every incident.

Service catalog

Owners, tiers, dependencies, and runbooks, modelled once and read by every investigation.

On-call schedules

Who’s on call right now and who to pull in, from the schedules that page them.

Related incidents

Every past incident like this one: its timeline, its responders, and what fixed it.

Retrospectives

What the team learned, and which follow-ups are still open.

02

## And the telemetry too.

AI SRE reads the observability tools you already run, with read-only access. Resolve AI’s core input is one Rootly reads as well.

- Datadog
- Grafana
- New Relic
- Sentry
- Splunk
- Dynatrace
- GitHub
- Linear

**Investigate** Starts the moment an alert fires, pulling in alerts, deploys, telemetry, and past incidents from every connected tool.

**Find root cause** Probable root causes ranked with confidence scores, and the evidence behind each one.

**Suggest the fix** Suggested fixes and next steps, with full visibility into how and why each was reached.

> We cut our resolution times in half and reduced repeat incidents. Rootly has been our best investment in terms of ROI.

Geoff Powell, Sr. Technical Manager, SRE

## Context that compounds with every incident.

Rootly remembers what every incident teaches and follows your instructions in plain language, so each investigation starts ahead.

- **Memory from every incident** What AI SRE learns from each investigation, plus your team’s notes, carried into the next one. Keep the lessons that help.
- **AI instructions in plain language** Guidance for AI SRE and every agent, like which evidence to weigh or which systems to check first.
- **A scribe on every call** Rootly AI joins the bridge, transcribes in real time, and captures decisions as they’re made.

## Root cause is one step. Rootly runs the rest.

Rootly pages, investigates, coordinates, communicates, learns, and prevents in one platform, and works with all your agents.

1. 1. Page Rootly Alerts route by service, team, and escalation policy, and page whoever’s on call. Resolve AI Starts from alerts sent by PagerDuty, Splunk On-Call, or webhooks. Schedules and escalation stay there.
2. 2. Investigate Rootly AI SRE investigates from the first alert, with ownership and past incidents already in hand. Resolve AI Investigates across telemetry, code, and the knowledge your team curates for it.
3. 3. Coordinate Rootly Declaring opens a Slack or Teams channel with roles, severity, and workflows set. Resolve AI Joins incident channels declared in another tool, such as PagerDuty or a Slack command.
4. 4. Communicate Rootly Workflows and the Rootly agent keep status pages and stakeholders current. Resolve AI Answers in the channel. Its docs describe no status pages.
5. 5. Learn Rootly Retrospectives draft from the whole incident, with the timeline already written. Resolve AI Drafts a retrospective to paste into Google Docs, Notion, Jira, or Linear.
6. 6. Prevent Rootly Action items are tracked to done, and memory carries the lesson into the next alert. Resolve AI Its docs describe no action-item tracking. Follow-ups live wherever the retrospective lands.

### Works with your entire agent stack.

Rootly’s context goes wherever your engineers already work with AI, in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and more.

## AI across the whole incident, not one step of it.

Two teams running AI SRE on the platform that runs their incidents.

- Built an AI-assisted reliability model on Rootly, from the page to the retrospective. > “Rootly is the only platform that’s easy to scale, has the flexibility to meet different requirements for different teams, and the AI-assisted capability for the future of reliability.” **Hannah Hammonds** Service Delivery Lead 86% reduction in repeat incidents 100% completion for retrospectives [Read the Prolific story](https://rootly.com/customers/prolific)
- Runs leaner on-call with AI handling communications, root cause analysis, and runbooks. > “With Rootly AI, the right person alone can handle an incident, versus in the past, a team working in parallel, all of them taking minutes if not hours to complete their tasks.” **Santiago Suarez Ordoñez** CEO and Co-Founder Fewer engineers needed in the on-call rotation Lower overnight burden on the responder [Read the Momentum story](https://rootly.com/customers/momentum)

## Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Rootly vs. Resolve AI.

### Is Resolve AI an incident management platform?

Not by its own documentation. Resolve AI investigates alerts, answers questions in Slack and Teams, runs scheduled tasks, and can take approved actions such as silencing an alert or opening a pull request. Paging, escalation, incident declaration, and status pages come from other tools; its docs describe incidents being declared through PagerDuty, a Slack command, or a similar workflow, which Resolve then joins. Rootly runs all of that itself, with AI SRE built in.

### What is the difference between Rootly AI SRE and Resolve AI?

Both investigate alerts across your telemetry and code, show their reasoning, and wait for human approval before changing anything. The difference is what each knows before it starts. Resolve AI builds its picture from telemetry and the knowledge your team curates for it: runbooks, docs, and retrospectives you add. Rootly AI SRE runs inside the platform that pages your team and runs your incidents, so the service catalog, on-call schedules, and every past incident are already its context.

### Does Resolve AI integrate with Rootly?

Only for team membership. Resolve AI’s docs list Rootly as a source it can sync team rosters from with an API key. They describe no integration that sends Rootly alerts, incidents, or catalog data to Resolve, so an investigation there doesn’t see your Rootly incident history.

### Does Rootly AI SRE read the same telemetry as Resolve AI?

For most stacks, yes. Rootly AI SRE connects to Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Sentry, Splunk, Dynatrace, GitHub, and more, with read-only access. Telemetry is the input both products share; Rootly adds the incident context around it.

### When is Resolve AI the better fit?

If your team plans to keep a separate paging and incident tool, wants an investigation layer on top of it, and runs telemetry backends Rootly doesn’t connect to yet, Resolve AI’s broad connector list and in-cluster Satellite are worth evaluating. Teams usually choose Rootly when they want the investigation, the paging, the response, and the learning to share one record of every incident.

### Does either product change my production systems on its own?

Both are read-only by default. Resolve AI can silence alerts, open pull requests, and dispatch GitHub Actions after a human approves, and its docs let an admin opt an individual tool into automatic execution. Rootly AI SRE investigates, suggests fixes, and drafts updates, and every change needs explicit human sign-off before it runs.

### Does Rootly work with Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor?

Yes. The Rootly MCP server brings incidents, on-call, and past fixes into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or any AI that speaks MCP, and a Claude Code plugin adds commands for responding, asking, checking on-call, and drafting retrospectives. AI SRE can hand a fix to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Devin and get back a pull request linked to the incident. You can also connect your own MCP server and choose which of its tools Rootly AI may call.

### Do Rootly or Resolve AI train models on my data?

Neither does, by their own policies. Rootly enforces zero third-party model training: your incident data is used only for your organization, never pooled with other customers. Resolve AI’s docs say it does not train on customer data.

### How does Resolve AI price its product?

As described in Resolve AI’s docs in October 2026, it bills for the work it does in credits: chats, investigations, incidents, and triages each draw on them, and it publishes no list prices. Its free trial allows 20 chats or investigations a day for 14 days. Investigations that start automatically from alerts draw credits too, so alert volume sets much of the bill.

### How much does Rootly cost?

Incident Response is $20 and On-Call is $20 per user per month. AI SRE requires Incident Response and is priced on request, Enterprise pricing is custom, and the free trial typically lasts two weeks. Eligible startups save up to 50%, and companies under 25 employees pay what they can, starting at $1. [See Rootly pricing](https://rootly.com/pricing).

### Can we bring Rootly in alongside our current paging tool?

Yes. Rootly takes alerts from PagerDuty and other paging tools, so AI SRE can investigate while a team keeps its current pager. Teams that move paging to Rootly too are usually live within a week, with dual-running during the transition.
