Insights

Insights that help you learn.

Rootly tracks alert, incident, on-call, and retrospective metrics in dashboards ready on day one, so you can learn from every incident and help prevent the next one.

Ready the day you turn it on.

Three dashboards come with every workspace, built from the incidents and alerts you already run in Rootly.

  • Incident Response

Incident volume and MTTD, MTTA, MTTM, and MTTR, broken down by severity, environment, service, functionality, and type.

  • Workload

Hours worked across incidents and responders, so an uneven load shows up before it wears people down.

  • On-Call Metrics

Alert volume, MTTA, MTTR, MTBF, and acknowledge rate, with alerts by source, responder, urgency, and service, including an on-call readiness report.

Build any custom view to fit your needs.

Chart any slice of your incident data, share it with the people who need it, and send it on a schedule.

See who carries the load.

The Workload dashboard adds up the hours each responder spends on incidents, so you can rebalance before a few people carry the rotation.

Know everyone on call can be reached.

On-Call Readiness shows who has critical push, phone, SMS, and email set up, by team or schedule, before the first page goes out.

Pay on-call straight from the schedule.

The On-Call Pay Calculator turns schedules into payroll-ready reports, with business hours, off-hours, and weekends priced at your rates.

A continuous learning loop so you're always improving.

Detection to resolution, causes, and follow-through.

You and your teams deserve modern incident management.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Rootly Insights.

What is Rootly Insights?

Rootly Insights is the analytics built into Rootly. It turns every incident, alert, retrospective, action item, and on-call shift Rootly records into dashboards: three that are ready on day one (Incident Response, Workload, and On-Call Metrics) and any number you build yourself.

Which metrics does Rootly track out of the box?

The Incident Response dashboard covers incident, retrospective, and action item counts, MTTD, MTTA, MTTM, and MTTR, and incidents by severity, environment, service, functionality, and type. Workload adds up hours worked by incident and by user. On-Call Metrics covers total alerts, MTTA, MTTR, MTBF, acknowledge rate, response effort, and alerts by source, responder, urgency, escalation policy, and service.

Can I build my own dashboards?

Yes. Each panel picks a collection (alerts, incidents, retrospectives, action items, or users), an operation (count, average, or sum), filters on any field including custom fields, and an optional group by. There are eight panel types: line, line stepped, column, stacked column, monitoring, pie, table, and aggregate value. Chart panels can compare several datasets, and line and column charts can show running totals.

Who can see a dashboard?

A dashboard can be private, shared with a team, shared with your whole organization, or public. People you share it with are viewers, editors, or managers. A public dashboard is read-only and opens from its link without a login, which suits a status review with customers or executives.

Can Rootly send reports automatically?

Yes. A standalone workflow can email a dashboard report on a recurring schedule or when something happens, such as an incident resolving. Whole dashboards export as PDF; individual panels export as PDF, CSV, or JSON, and charts as PNG or JPG.

Can I get Rootly data into my own warehouse or BI tool?

Yes. The Rootly API reads and manages dashboards and panels, and the Fivetran connector replicates Rootly data into the warehouse of your choice for analysis alongside the rest of your business data.

How do I check that every responder can be reached?

On-Call Readiness shows, for everyone on your schedules, which notification methods are set up: critical push, phone call, SMS, and email, for both urgent and low-priority alerts. Filter it by team, schedule, or escalation policy, and export it as CSV. Admins and owners see it by default.

How does Rootly calculate on-call pay?

The On-Call Pay Calculator turns schedules attached to an escalation policy into payroll-ready reports. Set hourly or daily rates, price business hours, off-hours, and weekends differently, choose a time zone, and export up to six months at a time as XLSX or CSV.

How does Rootly help with on-call burnout?

The Workload dashboard shows the hours each responder spends on incidents, and On-Call Metrics shows who receives alerts and how quickly they are acknowledged.
